Drawn-thread embroidery pillow case

Why does it take me over 2 years to complete a simple project? *sigh* But! It’s done. The drawn-thread and pulled-thread test pillow case set is now complete and ready to go!

The 2-pillows together

I’m not going to rehash everything from the first post-mortem about how the cases were made (what was I thinking?) but I will talk about the techniques. Here is a larger image of the actual stitching, and you might see the details and see where the 2 cases differ from each other. On the Paint program at home it’s a HUUUUUUGE image and you can the individual strands of the thread pretty easily — doesn’t translate well to photobucket though. *pouts*

One thing you’ll notice on the large image is that the material I found for the stitching is pretty funky looking. That’s because it was supposed to be a baby afghan and the large blocks were put into the fabric. I had to smoosh them around some to get the blocks to relax but it’s still funky. Mainly you can see this on the outter edges near where the flowers are. I deliberately chose this overly large counted-stitch material because I had no idea how difficult it would be count individual threads, and I didn’t want to discourage myself by choosing an experimental fabric poorly. I’m glad I did, because it made the learning process sooo much easier! Even so, white on white flowers are NOT easy. Ugh. You can usually tell the first one done because it’s the ugliest, and by the time I got to the second sampler I had figured out how to do it a bit better. I did, however, really enjoy this sort of work, so much so I took it to the next level and tried a ruskin lace. I have some other projects with drawn- and pulled-thread work in mind, but considering the turtle pace at which I do things I’m not expecting to be doing a post-mortem on that anytime soon.
